SUMMARY:
Mr. Carlson is the founder and President of VALUE Engineering, having
started the firm in April of 1988. Test Engineering has
been his field of expertise since graduating from college in 1975.

EXPERIENCE:
- March 1995 to Present - VALUE Engineering (full-time
as entrepreneur). Developed the firm as a consulting business doing
In-Circuit Test support for Teradyne Z18XX and other testers. Completed
over 120 test programs in 1997 and over 100 in 1996. Customers include
a variety of firms in the telecommunications, aerospace, military, and
commercial industries. Also perform on-site training courses for the
Teradyne Z18XX testers, and for Design-For-Testability purposes. Completed
a training course on videotape for specific applications. Conceived
and impleted the esreveR process of Reverse Engineering.
- June 1988 to March 1995 - SCI Manufacturing, Huntsville,
AL. Principal Engineer in charge of corporate test engineering departments
for a company with a $2 Billion annual revenue. Specialize in in-circuit
test implementation. Coordinated Teradyne, GenRad and Hewlett Packard
equipment; responsible for fixtures, programs, and installations. Responsible
for training of test engineering staff.
- March 1988 to May 1995 - VALUE Engineering, Dallas, TX
and Huntsville, AL. Started VALUE Engineering after being laid off
from Schlumberger. Ran the business as a "Moonlighting" business
at SCI, doing mostly Schlumberger 3XX and Teradyne Z18XX test programming.
- October 1981 to March 1988 - Schlumberger Technologies,
Dallas, TX. Was Product Specialist for the in-circuit test equipment
(Series 3XX and 7XX) and the functional test equipment (Series 70 and
7XX testers). Went with salesmen on sales calls to perform the technical
presentations, supported installed customers, assisted with start-up
usage of Schlumberger equipment, and support the contract programming
operation.
- June 1975 to October 1988 - General Dynamics, Ft. Worth,
Texas (now Lockheed Corp). First full-time job out of college was
to perform functional testing of five (5) "Black Boxes" for
the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Simulated flight; fault isolated
defects to the PCB level; documented test process. Was responsible for
the aircraft instruments that compute the altitude, airspeed, temperature,
mach number (among other related parameters) from the pneumatic tubes.
EDUCATION:
- September, 1975 to May, 1982: Southern Methodist University,
Dallas, TX. Earned Master of Science in Electrical Engineering. GPA
3.9 of 4.0.
- June, 1971 to May, 1975: Mississippi State University, Starkville,
MS. Earned B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Overall GPA 3.6 of 4.0 and
technical average 3.9 of 4.0.
- Numerous Automatic Test Equipment courses, including DITMCO (Cable
testing), Schlumberger 3XX (in-circuit testing), HP 307X (in-circuit
testing), GenRad 228X (in-circuit testing), Teradyne Z18XX (in-circuit
testing), Schlumberger 7XX (in-circuit and functional testing), C-Link
(CAD to ATE translation software).
- Taught numerous Automatic Test Equipment courses, including Schlumberger
3XX , Teradyne Z18XX , and Design-For-Testability seminars.
MISCELLANEOUS:
- Very happily married since 1977; one child.
- Hobbies include Church-related activities, traveling, magic, and humor.
